Cosmetic surgery – I dare you!

Cosmetic surgery – I dare you!

I`ve been toying with the idea of Botox. Not that I have the money or anything but hey if I did I wouldn`t mind doing the old crows feet. Anyone else?

I have no problem with growing old gracefully but I feel that there are ways to get rid of those extra sagging skin, unintentional scars, sagging boobs, stress wrinkles and grey hair and dammit if Janet Dickens can look that good at her ripe age so can I! I am not shy about my body and would never say I didn't have plastic surgery, but I will always be young of heart and I feel that my body needs to represent that no matter what age I am. Life is tough and puts unnecessary pressure on our bodies. Plus not everybody has the perfect skin and perky boobs. Mine was perky...for about a year of my life and at twenty five they are saggy and makes me feel like a sixty year old - yes I do spend a lot of money on proper bras- so I feel my premature grey hair and saggy bits have a right to look their age. In the end its each unto their own. My mother is almost fifty and looks about thirty without make-up, so for a lucky lady like that I would never recommend such a drastic step in beautification.

I don't think mentioning a name here is a wise idea, in case the doctor gets discredited. I would suggest you put your email address so that those with experience or those who know about Plastic Surgeons can contact you directly and you can ask them about the doctor in question.

I have made an appointment for a consultation for a face lift. I was referred by the Plastic Surgeon Assoc of SA but would like personal comments on this doctor - are we allowed to mention names here?

Hengie  [Sundowner GT ] 7 Jun 10

Just select your surgeon very carefully. It is much worse having to go back to fix mistakes. As an alternative Restylane shots and botox do a great job

Cheryl  [Fairleads, GT ] 6 May 10

in a heartbeat i would not hesitate, facelift and boob job, just need to find the money

Janine  [Durban KN ] 6 May 10

If I had the money, i would definately do it, i feel that a woman should look her best no matter what, but as long as she knows when enough is enough.

Vicky  [Jukskei Park GT ] 6 May 10

I really wanted to go for a tummy tuck especially after the birth of my son, however I had a radical change of mind when I actually got to see how it is really done and no thanks, I will stick to exercise and healthy eating than go through all that pain, they cut off a chunk of your body and then you still have the scar, my c section scar is enough for me thank you very much, I would love to be my tiny 32 again but hey I am now more than happy being a 34.

Natalie  [Brits NW ] 29 Apr 10

Would love to have "Lypo" oh to be a size 32 again!

Please give me the weight loss recipe. Have tried everything

Hi Fathima. It was not a 'diet', it was shock, stress and emotion related so you dont want to go this route. On the bright side, however, I am back to normal and I have managed to keep the weight off. I know how difficult it is as I have been a professional dieter all my life. All the best with whatever you try

I am a young mother of 3. My first born scarred my tummy area really badly. After the 2nd one I looked like a stretched out piece of leather. It ruined my confidence and became depressed. My husband looked into plastic surgery and convinced me to go for a tummy tuck and a bood lift. The doctor was so kind that he added complimentary lipo suction around my love handles and hips. It has been 5 years and I had another little one and I have never looked back. My self esteem is better than ever before and I look and feel great. It was definitely the best decision I have ever made.

Juanita  [Welgemoed WC ] 8 Oct 09

I had a rhinoplasty and have never been sorry about it. My nose was broken at 16 and it took a couple months before we realised that it needed to be reset. By that time it was too late and I had to wait ten years to get it done.

I'm all for a person having one procedure to fix something that's holding them back but I don't like it when women do 6-8 different procedures to try and look like Barbie.

I am 31, had a boob lift and augmentation 2 yrs ago as a gift from hubby after having 2 kids and breastfeeding.
Will do it again in a heart beat, best decision ever!!!
Havent really considered Botox yet but when the times comes I wont hesitate to have it done.
FYI www.FHF.co.za also offer grt loans for cosmetic procedures

Lilian  [Rosettenville GT ] 6 Aug 09

I think your looks are a personal thing, I am 28 and am considering a chemical peel and removal of flesh moles... to enhance my features . I think Cosmetic surgery as such is ther to boost your self confidence not to disfigure ure god gven features! Grey hair only suits some people hopefully your loved ones give you an honest opinion about how you really look....

lesley ann  [cape town WC ] 31 Jul 09

My medical aid, Fedhealth, offer interest free loan on elective surgery up to R25,000. Not used the option, but its available if I decide to use it.

Tara  [Sea Point WC ] 21 Jul 09

I had cosmetic surgery about 6 years ago after both of my children were born. It did wonders for my self confidence but there does need to be a line on how much surgery should be done. Still toying with the idea of Botox....

Samantha  [Boskruin GT ] 15 Jul 09

I think costmetic surgery is great but as long as you know where to draw the line. I don't think a small nip and tuck here to make you as a person feel better about yourself is a bad thing at all. After I had my baby I swore that I would go for breast augmentation but I just can't afford it, it is nearly R30 000.00 now.

I fully agree with you Georgina! I've finally stopped dying my hair and most comments "you look so much younger with grey hair!" I'm sure God would not have let us go grey if he didn't think it would suit us!!!

I had a breast augmentation done and it really changed everything. I look and feel better about myself. I don't regret having it done.

Estelle  [Southcrest GT ] 2 Jul 09

I would not hesitate to have cosmetic surgery, but the chances of me ever being able to afford it are ZERO, medical costs in this day and age are beyond the reach of a normal income parent

Karen  [Boksburg GT ] 1 Jul 09

I had a tummy tuck as a gift to myself after I finished having my kids (3 ) it was the best thing I could have done it made me feel like a new woman .

patricia  [rivonia GT ] 24 Jun 09

Forget botox -- I'm going for the whole package! Tummy tuck, lower body lift, boob lift...they call

Hey, have you had a quote for a mommy-over? I would also be interested in having one, just that I am not sure if I really want the boob increase, just a boob-lift.
Which doc have you been to?
Sandie (Pretoria)

sandie  [Olympus GT ] 22 Jun 09

I don't know about botox, maybe later in life. But yes, i have even seen a docter and received quotes on a breast augmentation. After two kids in a space of 2 years, my size is less than pretty. All i need now is the money. It is a lot less expensive than every-one makes it out to be.

Lizzy  [Rissiville, Vereeniging GT ] 22 Jun 09

Forget botox -- I'm going for the whole package! Tummy tuck, lower body lift, boob lift...they call it a "Mommy Makeover." Now if only I could lose these last 10kg first. Sigh.

Lisa  [Strand WC ] 4 Jun 09

Nevermind the crows feet..i want a boob lift! I started with kids very young and now that Im finished, I would love the joy of perky smaller boobs. Besides, the bra's for my size are always drab and dull. Nothing to make a woman feel sexy. LOL..it sucks.

Shirley  [Table View WC ] 3 Jun 09

In the world of today there is so much pressure to look good. I think more and more people is cosidering the idea of plastic surgery.

Adri  [SECUNDA MP ] 2 Jun 09

Give me the money and I'm there like a bear. I lost a lot of weight very quickly so now I need (I'm so past want - now I need) an inner thigh lift, tummy tuck and face lift. I think cosmetic surgery is the best 'invention'

Hengie  [Sundowner GT ] 2 Jun 09

I tell you what! If I could afford it I'd do quite a bit, staring with gastric banding ;-) Sounds drastic but I so struggle to diet and exercise to lose weight. Hey if Sharon Osborne can do it...

Belinda  [Florida GT ] 2 Jun 09

Don't know how correct this is but apparently botox is a bacteria. Really don't know how good it is for you?

Celeste  [Cowies hill KN ] 2 Jun 09

I would never consider Botox as the long term side effects are not yet known? save your money and go for a face lift! its a little more invasive in the short term but far better in the long run!
