2010 World Cup

I can`t believe it`s 2010 already! The prestigious World Cup is being staged here in South Africa as you all know. As a South African I`m excited that I`ll be here when it happens! Anyone else?

Can't believe it's over. What on earth do we do now??? The reviews on SA as a host country have been awesome! I am so proud to be South African!

What an awesome vibe yesterday! I was out on the roads at midday and the air was full of excitement! I am proud to be South African and will be rooting for our team whole-heartedly! I can already feel that people's views have changed and that our team is indeed talented and has just as much chance as any on winning this. Look what we did at the Rugby World Cup in 1995...and who would have thought... We need to be behind our team 100%. Ayoba!!

The excitement is building up very fast as tomorrow is the kick-off. It is very exciting to think that all over the work the soccer teams are here especially when you look at a map and you see all the countries that are here.

The vibe in CT is awesome. Over the weekend cars are driving around not only with their Blue Bulls and Stormers Flag, but SA flag aswell. And I love those little rear view mirror socks!! the gees is definitely starting to increase here in the Cape!!
And how were the Vuvezelas at the rugby on Saturday!! Good Grief!!

not fun if you want to travel in South Africa during this time and are paying exorbitant prices for accommodation. People are getting ripped off with accommodation prices

i totall AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though schools will be closed - they will be offering workshops and outings for the kids during this period. Unfortunately it will of course be at a cost. This will be an oppportunity for the schools to "coin it" aswell. So I wouldn't worry too much about trying to keep the kids busy - or wondering what to do with them if you go to work. The aftercares will still be functional.

I'm from Johannesburg, I really do hope that safety mesures will be very strict. Crime is one of the big issues that I'm worried about with people coming over from all over the world.

i heard somewhere along the grapevine that businesses in the cbd will be closed during this time. or just open half day. does anyone know how true this is?

Ledona  [Westlake, Cape Town WC ] 13 Jan 10

I'm looking forward to the world cup - the only thing that might get me down is the traffic as I work in Sea Point, but hey it' s only for 5 weeks!!!!!!!!!

i agree with you. what are we gonna do to keep them busy for 5 whole weeks when the weather will be miserable too.

Ledona  [Westlake, Cape Town WC ] 11 Jan 10

I am certainly not looking forward to the traffic on the roads during the World Cup as that is where I spend alot of time during the day.
