There's actually nothing worse than waking up to a messy kitchen "the morning after". I always try to clean the mess before going to bed and then when I wake up the next morning I am so glad I made the effort the night before. I try to keep that feeling in mind when I entertain and then face the mess after..
Mind you..I have brilliant friends (and a sister that loves to clean), so usually they help aswell..done in a jiffy with many hands..

I actually enjoy washing dishes after events. It gives me time to myself and the warm water soothes
Agreed!

Martha - lucky girl - I know - your hubby (my brother-in -law, has cleaned after me many times as well. 1 in a million! I dont either mind after party mess - I do have help to clean - but am going to invest in a dishwaher as well after reading all the comments. I also ask all guests to take leftovers.

I usually ask if anybody wants to help themselves to any of the left overs - that way i don't have to find place for 101 little dishes in my fridge - and everyone gets to take home a favourite!

The dishwasher is an absolute godsend after a dinner party. Once the dishes are packed away in there the kitched looks clean once again

Absolutely, but I rinse whatever needs rinsing, pack it neatly in the kitchen, lightly clean and tidy the rest of the mess and leave it until the next morning!!!
