That is put in the bottom so that barrels can be stacked for storage or shipping.  With the ring in it, the barrels can be easily pulled apart.

I bought this and noticed a  cardboard circle glued to the bottom of it. I am wondering why?  I wish I could share the pictures I took.

This is made from the same material as many reusable food storage containers and single-serving tubs which are considered food safe.

It's plastic. So don't be alarmed. Which was fine with me. I added two more holes in the bottom. My flowers love it. I love it. My next project for it will be a water fountain flower pot.

I mounted wheels on them hand have planted everything from bulbs, Lillies, artichoke, tomatoes, a tree.   They work great!  Wonderful patio garden. 
Suggest moisture control soil so watering daily on hot days isn’t necessary.

We’ve been really happy with these planters between store and online purchases we have over 20 of them.  They are what they say they are. Not super flimsy. Easy two hole drainage on the bottom. I just put dwarf Alberta spruce trees in them and they seem happy.

I love these will be planting vegetables in them.  When we opened the box and pull the two pots apart there was a brown widow spider webbing the insides.  Fortunately we had some spray.  I wish they would QA before shipping that could have ended badly had I not seen it inside.

Nice planters for a great price. Wish they came with drainage holes in them already, but shouldn't be an issue drilling a few holes myself. Will be using these to grow some veggies in!

I purchased 4 on clearance September of last year. They were stacked together and I used at curb pickup. I put them in the garage and just brought them out to plant. One of them has the bottom busted out. There thin and brittle so I hope the 3 I've planted in hold up. I obvious can't return this late in the game so that was disappointing. I'd have expected better quality (thicker bottoms at least).
